For Counselors & Coaches
The financial dimension of temperament — a clinical framework for behavioral insight work.
Why Temperament Explains What Budgets Can’t
Most of the financial struggles your clients bring to session are not money problems. They are temperament problems — patterns of earning, spending, saving, giving, and financial decision-making that are driven by inborn wiring rather than knowledge, discipline, or willpower.
The Arno Profile System provides a clinically validated framework for understanding that wiring. The Money Temperament Audit applies it specifically to financial behavior — giving clients language for patterns they have lived with for years without being able to name.
The Arno Profile System
The APS is the only temperament instrument that identifies five temperament types, including the Supine — a pattern that does not appear in any other system and is among the most consequential in financial life. Developed by Dr. Richard Arno and Dr. Phyllis Arno through the National Christian Counseling Association. The three-dimensional model (Inclusion, Control, Affection) provides a complete picture of how a client relates to others, to authority, and in their closest relationships — all of which intersect directly with financial behavior.
